The restaurant manager wannabe

An Indian girl caught my eye while I was waiting for J and HK at Rose Garden. Pretty attractive. Very nice eyes. She was busy talking to her friend. Definitely not the right occasion to go up and talk to her, but was hoping for her to look in my direction and exchange smiles at least. After a few minutes I totally lost the interest. That's when I had a self realization. Just realized that if a person who I find attractive at first sight doesn't smile within 5 minutes, I will not find her attractive anymore. I guess to me it's a way of saying that she's too serious about life and do not have much sense of humour. Definetly not what I look for in a woman. But of course, you don't want her smiling at her mom's funeral, probably be something wrong with her.

Was waiting for a tram at Bourke St late that night. Didn't know whether there was still tram. Ask this girl whether she was waiting for the 86. Yes. Hopped over the 7-11 to get a slurpee. Maybe I'll have a chat with this girl. She seemed pretty friendly. Wondered what my opening line would be. She was sitting on the bench, shoulders drooping, bag on her lap, casually dressed, looking tired, smoking a cigarette. I think she must have just finished work. I asked. Yes, she just finished work at Hawker's Cafe on Russell St. Recommends the Laksa there. And so the conversation begins...

Her name's Jess, 18, from Mildura. That's pretty far I thought. Read about it on the tourist brochure. It's up at Murray River, place for fishing and wineries. Population of 44K. Anyways, she's just moved down to Melbourne in April, living in student accomodation in Reservoir. First time someone tells me that they live near tram stop 53. Haha. Usually, they will use unusual landmarks to describe where they live. She currently attending cooking school. Cool! A future chef! Currently doing the third certificate (there's a total of 4 certs). They don't have exams or assignments, just assessed on their cooking. Wah...so lucky...just need to cook to pass. How good does that sound?

Family's in Mildura. Her mom's a nurse, dad works in the post office. Started talking about travelling. Says she wants travel and work in the future and Eastern Europe is her first destination. Having been there, told her about the wonderful things you get to see there. Her green eyes seem to light up hearing about it. Haha.

Think she's a person who live in her own little world and live by her own rules. Says she likes to make her own style of cooking, don't like to follow the steps given to her in cooking school. Told her I like cooking too and that I also try to make up my own dishes. I think that's how famous dishes are made, through trial and error. But I also think you also need to have to be natural, the talent in choosing the right ingredients and the right amount. The cooking intuition...hehe. However, says cooking's not her dream, she want to manage a restaurant in the future.

Noticed she's got a missing tooth on the top 4th right from the middle. Started talking about interests. She's into reading. Recommended Bryce Courtney. I'll check her out. Also into shopping, esp music, goes to JB-HiFi at least once a week. Did not get the chance to ask her what type of music she likes. Doesn't like Melbourne that much, think the people here are snobbish, difficult to make friends. I can see where she's coming from coz she's comes from a town where she knows everyone.

I think she's very mature for her age. She seems to know what she wants in life and seems to be heading in the right direction with what she's doing now. She's pretty shy though, kept looking down when we talk. Giggles lots too. Can see that she's not used to talking to people, and giggling's a way to be in her comfort zone.

Everyone has a comfort zone. Sometimes it's easy to spot, sometimes it's not. In my opinion, it's those people who get out their comfort zones that go far in life. It's all about knowing when to get out of it...
